About

Mr. Shardul Jaswant Thacker has been associated with the firm since 1970.

Lloyd’s List ranked him in “Top 10 Lawyers”-“HIGHLY regarded for his work in the LNG sector, particularly for interesting & highly geared finance deals in relation to infrastructure projects, energy, ports & ships".

He is a member of the Bombay Incorporated Law Society and the Bombay Bar Association. He is Vice President, Indian Maritime Lawyers Association affiliated to CMI and Member of Executive Committee of Mumbai Centre for International Arbitration, Maritime Users’ Council.

His clients have included acquirers, sellers and targets in M&A cross-border transactions. He advises on competition & tax issues, red flag items-pollution, product liability and non-insurable risks.

He advises MNCs & Indian Companies across industries: Banking, Insurance, Shipping, Steel, Subsea Engineering & Marine services, Offshore Construction, Infrastructure (LNG Ports, Oil & Gas), Tooling & Bearings, Transport, Trade, Logistics and advises on industry regulatory issues.

He also advises on

  • Ship & structured finance, regulatory issues-flagging, cabotage, tonnage tax while investing in shipping ventures and reviews bid documents and assessing risk areas.
  • Diverse insurance policies-marine, LOP, material damage, erection policies etc.
  • EPC contractors-offshore construction project contracts, subsea topside work, integrated & marine service contracts.
  • Charter party contracts, particularly, dry cargo-iron ore/coal.

In commercial practice he handles contracts of S&P of goods/services, long term take or pay and supply chain contracts.

He litigation/arbitration practice is domestic & cross-border and deals with banking & debt disputes, corporate insolvencies & restructurings, enforcement of foreign awards. Shardul advises on managing litigation risks & facilitates negotiations to resolve disputes thus resulting in the least possible adverse effect to clients’ business & benefit / transfer of business, machinery/equipment and technology transfers.
